As described in the Patanjali Yoga Sutras, "Yogas Citta Vritti Nirodhah". Yoga is the stilling of the mind's restless fluctuations.

This stillness reveals what lies beneath the noise of everyday

life:

1. Citta—the mind's repository of impressions and memories, shaped by the world.


2. Vritti—the constant ripples of thought, emotion, and distraction that obscure clarity.


3. Nirodhah—a state of deep stillness where the mind rests. And simply, aware.

 

When your mind becomes quiet, it no longer reacts to every ripple, every trigger. Instead, it becomes a tool to see clearly, to live with purpose, and to touch something infinite within yourself.

You will never understand the concept of ancient Greek physician Hippocrates' teaching, "Let food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food." if you are only given various shapes of the same french fries all the time. The concept of Yoga that you think you know now is only various stretches and bends.

You will discover a transformative journey through step-by-step modules of the world's first Hatha Vidya 12-Year Sadhana Program. Each program you enroll in at our school is a definitive step toward your liberation. Every program is designed to be interconnected, guiding you toward your highest potential.

Asanas

We start with the basics, preparing the body with simple yet essential stretches like toe bending, ankle rotations, and arm stretches. These foundational movements may not have Sanskrit names, but they are crucial for getting started. From there, we gradually progress to fundamental poses from the 84 classical asanas mentioned in the Hatha Yoga Pradipika. This approach ensures that anyone can comfortably join and benefit from this course regardless of physical ability.

Meditation

Ah, the classic “I can’t meditate because my mind wanders.” But what if your mind wanders because you don’t meditate?

Meditation isn’t about stopping your thoughts but letting them come and go while observing them without judgment. It’s a journey inward, helping you understand your thoughts and release them—whether pleasant or unpleasant.  Because your thoughts are not you.

Like anything worthwhile, meditation takes practice. But even in the beginning, you might notice the benefits—feeling refreshed, more focused, and present. The experience is yours to discover.

Someone wise once said that a basic 20 minutes of meditation is recommended to everyone daily. Unless you are super busy, you will need 2 hours of meditation.

We’ve all been there—walking into a yoga class, feeling shy, and choosing a spot as far from the instructor as possible. But from the back of the class, you struggle to hear her instructions, can’t quite see the poses, and end up glancing at your neighbor’s mat for guidance. They seem to have it all together, while you feel more like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. 

A sweaty group chanting “Om Shanti” after, you feel even more defeated, thinking, “Yoga just isn’t for me. How can the girl next to me look like a phoenix?”

This is where we do things differently. 

Hatha Vidya Traditional School of Yoga unveils the world's first and most comprehensive Twelve-Year Sadhana system. It is a synergistic program that interweaves all magnificent ancient texts and is carefully structured into one progressively adaptive and applicable curriculum.

Acharya Bala is the Founder and the Chairman of Hatha Vidya Gurukulam, India, and Hatha Vidya Traditional School of Yoga; he is also the Director of Yoga Alliance International for GCC division.

He has traveled extensively in pursuit of knowledge and seeking the truth, and he has associated himself with many eminent masters and traditional Yoga centers of high reputation.

In 2006, he met his Guru H.H. Srividyamba Saraswathi of Tamil Nadu, and received initiation into the Natha tradition.

For over 20 years, Acharya has dedicated his life to yoga with the only mission of promoting traditional yoga globally.
